Over the last few weeks, I started a new series called Clean Capital where I research and share findings about a company that meets halal finance criteria and operates ethically. I knew when I came up with the idea that it would feel like digging for a needle in a haystack, but nonetheless I persisted.

Inevitably, one of the companies I shared ended up not meeting expectations and the crowds reacted as aggressively as you’d expect of any faceless person judging the actions of others online. As a team of one, I do my best to make sure companies I select fit the criteria but in all honesty my initial requirements were pretty vague.

So I’ve set some new rules for Clean Capital:

  1. The company in question must pass Zoya’s compliance screener

  2. The company in question must not appear as a controversial company on Boycat’s app

  3. My own findings about the company in question should find that they operate ethically

Yes, the last criteria is subjective - but that’s the beauty of having my own page. I do what I want!! Shoutout to my brother for making this his motto in life and repeating it to me anytime I worried about what other people thought of me. It serves as a welcome reminder as I’m attacked mercilessly by the instagram anons (ok it wasn’t that bad, but I think if I left the video up it would’ve been).

This is the last time I’ll speak of the Hershey’s incident of 2026. I apologize for my mistake. I’m doing my best. Thank you to those of you who corrected me with kindness.

I’ve also been reflecting on client wins and setbacks over the last year. I think I’ve come up with the single most important characteristic that defines a client’s success with 1:1 coaching - not just with me, and not even just in the finance space.

A bias for action

You can book a call with me and rapid-fire ask me a bunch of questions. You might pat yourself on the back after because you took a step towards financial progress. And I don’t doubt that it did help. But the real magic? 🪄 That happens when people act. The most inspirational results I’ve seen came from clients who sat down with the fiercest look in their eyes and were ready to get to work.

It sounds so simple. But we get discouraged by past mistakes or messaging we grew up with around money. The real success comes from allowing those experiences to exist simultaneously. From acknowledging and respecting the parts that didn’t go well while also giving yourself the space to do what it takes. Even if it’s imperfect. Do it, learn, try again. Just act.
